52nd Anniversary of Independence Message

As we gather in worship and thanksgiving at this sacred service, I offer greetings on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and extend sincere appreciation to St. John’s Episcopal Church for hosting this moment of reflection as we mark 52 years of Independence.

This year’s national theme, “Grenada at 52 — Anchored in Faith, Guided by Purpose,” finds particular meaning in a service such as this. Faith has long been one of Grenada’s quiet strengths. It has sustained our people through seasons of uncertainty and change, and it continues to shape the values of resilience, compassion, and responsibility that define us as a nation.

Independence is more than a historical milestone. It is a living responsibility—renewed each generation—to steward our freedom with wisdom and humility. It calls us to lead with integrity, to care for one another, and to build a society where opportunity is widened and dignity preserved.

From my post in Washington, I am deeply aware of both the pride Grenadians feel for their homeland and the realities many face in the diaspora. Grenadians in the United States contribute richly to their communities here, while remaining profoundly connected to home. Your faith, perseverance, and continued commitment to Grenada remain an essential part of our national story.

In this season of thanksgiving, we give thanks for the journey of our tri-island state; for those who laboured for nationhood; for those who serve today; and for the generations yet to come. We also pray for wisdom in leadership, unity among our people, and peace in our communities—at home and abroad.

As Grenada continues its journey, may we remain anchored in faith, trusting God’s guidance, and guided by purpose, committed to building a nation worthy of the sacrifices made on its behalf.

May God bless Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and all who carry our nation in their hearts.
