Prime Minister – 2026 Independence Diaspora Remarks

Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada
Brothers and sisters of the Grenadian diaspora,
Distinguished guests, friends of Grenada,
Good Day.
Wherever you are in the world — whether in North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the wider Caribbean, or beyond — I bring you warm greetings from home. From your tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique — from the people who never forget you.
As we mark our 52 years of Independence — under the Theme Anchored in Faith, Guided by Purpose, we celebrate more than half a century of self-determination, resilience, and progress. And we will host Grenada Homecoming 2026 — a moment designed especially for you: our sons and daughters abroad.
Because no matter how far you travel, Grenada has never travelled from you.
Grenada’s Diaspora Homecoming 2026 is our major national initiative running from June 21 to July 5, 2026, designed to reconnect our diaspora-Grenadians abroad- with their homeland. Led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event features investment forums, cultural exchanges, and celebrations to foster development.
- Dates: June 21 – July 5, 2026.
- Purpose: To strengthen ties with the diaspora, promote investment in Grenada, and celebrate shared heritage.
- Highlights: Investment, trade, and development forums, alongside cultural and community-based activities.
- Organizers: Led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Export Development, supported by the Grenada Tourism Authority
You have carried our culture into the world — our music, our food, our values, our unmistakable Grenadian spirit. You have represented us with distinction in classrooms and boardrooms, hospitals and construction sites, parliaments and communities across the globe. And through it all, you have supported home — through remittances, investments, advice, advocacy, and love.
Grenada’s story cannot be told without you.
As we celebrate 52 years of Independence, we are reflecting not only on where we have come from — colonialism to nationhood, adversity to achievement — but also on where we are going. We are building a Grenada that is more resilient, more inclusive, more innovative, and more prepared for the future.
A Grenada with stronger infrastructure and better housing.
A Grenada investing in education, healthcare, digital transformation, and climate resilience.
A Grenada that creates opportunities so that young people can thrive at home — and return home.
Grenada Homecoming 2026 is our way of saying: Come back and reconnect.
Reconnect with family.
Reconnect with community.
Reconnect with opportunity.
It will be a year of celebration — of culture, music, food, sport, and faith. But it will also be a year of engagement — connecting skills to needs, ideas to action, capital to opportunity. Whether you wish to invest, mentor, teach, build, retire, or simply rediscover the joy of home — Grenada is ready for you.
Independence is not a single moment in history. It is an ongoing responsibility. And at 52, our independence calls us to deepen unity between those at home and those abroad.
We are one people.
One nation.
One Grenada.
I extend this invitation with pride and with confidence:
Join us in 2026. Come home for Independence. Come home for Carnival. Come home for renewal. Come home to help shape the next chapter of the Grenadian story.
Grenada is rising.
Grenada is open.
And Grenada will always be your home.
May God bless you, may God bless the diaspora, and may God bless our beautiful nation of Grenada.
Thank you.
